If you are driving from Los Angeles, take I-5 S (we don't name our freeways down here) to I-805 S to SR-163 S. From 163, take I-8 East to Qualcomm Way. Do the loop-de-loop so that you are driving North on Qualcomm Way. Turn Right on Rio San Diego Drive.
If you are driving from Riverside, take I-15 S to Friars Road. Go West (Right turn) on Friars, take the Qualcomm Way exit, turn Left on Qualcomm Way, turn Left on Rio San Diego Drive.
If you are driving from points East, take I-8 W to Qualcomm Way. Do the loop-de-loop so that you are driving North on Qualcomm Way. Turn Right on Rio San Diego Drive.
If you are arriving by Train, board the BLUE Line Trolley heading to "Old Town" or to "Qualcomm Stadium." If you are on the Old Town train you will have to change to the GREEN Line in Old Town. Regardless of what train you depart Old Town on, ride to the RIO VISTA station (Mission Valley Center is the stop just before it, and if you get to Qualcomm Stadium, you've gone too far.) Get off at Rio Vista and walk across Qualcomm Way to the hotel. (the Blue Line occasionally goes to Rio Vista, the Green line always does. The Green Line does not travel south of Old Town).
If you are arriving by air via Lindbergh Field (San Diego International Airport) and want to take public transportation:
After claiming your bags, go out to the curb and look for the transit bus signs marked Route 992. (This bus stops at all terminals, and it runs every ten minutes on weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends; details available on the Transit Planner web page. Choose one of the Airport Terminal options for Starting Location, and Rio Vista Trolley Station as your Destination.)
You'll need $2.25 exact change; the bus does accept $1 bills. Ask for a transfer when you board; this is your "proof of payment" and you'll need it on the trolley. Ride the bus to Pacific Highway and Cedar. This is the connection with light rail ("County Center/Little Italy" station), and the bus driver may call this out. Change to the BLUE LINE TROLLEY heading for "Old Town" or to "Qualcomm Stadium." You don't need a new ticket. The transfer you received when you boarded the bus is proof of payment. A fare inspector may ask to see this transfer, and there is a fine for traveling without proof of payment, so be sure to hang on to it. If you are on the Old Town train you will have to change to the GREEN Line in Old Town.
If you want to take a taxi from the airport: It's seven miles from SAN to the hotel, typical fare by taxi is $20 one way.
Or If you want to take a shared van from the airport: One choice is Cloud 9 Shuttle which is $11.50 one way/$23 round trip. (Click on "Make an online reservation." On the Reservations & Fares Quotes page choose "Arriving FROM an airport" and select either one-way or round-trip. On the "CHECK PICKUP AVAILABILITY AND PRICING" page, select "Mission Valley (92108)" for City, and "Mission Valley Marriott" for Hotel.) Information on alternative shuttles can be found at SAN's website.
If you are renting a car at the airport, your best way to get to the hotel is: Drive south/east (towards the tall buildings) on N Harbor Blvd. (you should now understand why it's hard to explain!) Turn Left on Grape Street. Get in the Right Lane, as you'll be turning Right onto I-5 South (trust me, it *does* make sense). Take the CA-163 N ramp to Escondido. Continue on CA-163 through beautiful Balboa Park. This is a very old freeway, so please observe the speed limits! Continue north and take the I-8 East ramp. From I-8 take the Qualcomm Way exit, turn Left. Turn Right on to Rio San Diego Drive.
If you are arriving by Cruise Ship, take a Taxi or the Trolley from the Santa Fe Depot station. Follow the directions for Arriving by Train, above.
If you are arriving by private plane or helicopter, send email to info@conzilla.info before you leave so we can make arrangements.
